Mary Farrell Cleary was born in 1842. She was the eldest of 12 children born to William (Billy) Farrell and Ellen Blake of Upper Summerhill, Drumcondra, County Meath, Ireland.
She emigrated to the United States in the 1860's and never returned to Ireland. It was thought that she emigrated to Illinois and married a man named Cleary. A search of the Illinois Statewide Marriage Index discovered a Farrell/Cleary marriage in 1869 in Shelby County, Illinois. However it was not certain that this record referred to Mary Farrell. However in January 2002, an old family photo album was found in Ireland. It contains this photo of Mary and printed on the back, is the name of Sittler and Launey, Photographers of Shelbyville, Illinois.
So if you are descended from Mary Farrell Cleary, please e-mail niallf@eircom.net as you have a large number of Irish cousins and we would like to enter you on the family tree!
